I've been wearing these 17 inchers with non-steel toes for the past 4 months, and I love them. One thing I've noted is how much lighter weight they are than the Wesco's 16" Engineer/Boss Boots! A Wesco 16" Boss with leather lining weighs in at 5 pounds. The Chippewa 17" weighs 3 pounds.
Not to worry -- I've been wearing Wesco all my life and I continue to rack up miles with them.... but I'm also a huge fan of the Chippewa product.

This style was first made by Chippewa 25 years ago. Stompers has proudly championed the return of this black leather beauty, which is now the trophy in the Chippewa line of boots. This boot is standard uniform equipment for some motorcycle police departments.

This 17" High Shine with steel safety toe is leather-lined. The leather lining provides another layer of protection, and keeps the uppers more rigid.
